Volt Luxembourg held its general assembly

On Saturday morning, Volt Luxembourg held its general assembly in Luxembourg City. Among other things, a new board and new statutes were voted on. We were delighted to welcome four members from other Volt chapters.

The members of Volt Luxembourg were joined by: Slavomír Maňásek from Volt 🇨🇿 Czechia (and representative of Volt 🇪🇺 Europe), Inês Bravo Figueiredo from Volt 🇵🇹 Portugal, Antoine Jendzio--Verdasca from Volt 🇫🇷 France and Mike Winkel from Volt 🇳🇱 Netherlands. It was a pleasure for us to welcome so many Volters who had travelled such long distances.

Thanks to the required majority, the following items were voted on:

  • Validation of the 2024 cash register

  • Adoption of the 2025 budget

  • New composition of the board

  • Amendment of the statutes

The new statutes can be found here: ➡️ To the statutes ⬅️

The board now consists of 6 members, namely:

  • Aurélie Dap, co-chair

  • Philippe Schannes, co-chair

  • Daniel Silva, general secretary

  • Conny Jaroni, treasurer

  • Lara Marwaha, events and social media lead

  • Alexandre Moreno, community lead

After the assembly, we went out for lunch together and showed our friends who had travelled from further afield the capital of Luxembourg.

Volt Luxembourg is looking forward to a new year in 2025 and will continue to advocate for pragmatic and new policies! In the years to come, we will have to continue to stand up for foreigners living in Luxembourg, because the disparity is growing ever greater. With 47.2% foreigners, just over half of the population is eligible to vote in national elections. In the last municipal elections, only 20% of foreign residents exercised their right to vote and only 1.9% of elected officials do not have Luxembourgish citizenship. In other words, there is an enormous disparity between the population, the electorate and those elected. And it is precisely this democratic deficit that we must address in the future, by motivating foreigners to make more use of their existing right to vote and by advocating a general right to vote for all residents in Luxembourg.
